The PDF below contains a set of metacognition cards built on Foresight, Oversight, Hindsight: three processes that consider student thinking before, during, and after learning. The cards are also an example of how I used AI without outsourcing my thinking; I followed Think, Generate, Edit to make them! I mapped the nine cards and wrote the first pass of questions myself, then used Claude Design, and Canva in as a tools support the layout, look, and language. I spent hours over several weeks adjusting, rewording, and fine-tuning them.

About using the cards. They are not focused on the topic of AI, but more so on student independence, awareness, and intentionality of their processes.
Every card is structured the same way: students read the seven questions, pick the ones that help most today, and then consider their own answers. I put a few question types on each card related to their process, metacognition, AI, and how they can take action in the form of do nows. Students choose the question, the where to respond (e.g. conversation, journal, etc.), and if a tool would be helpful (dictation, AI bot, paper and pencil). As teachers, we support them and scaffold our way out of the equation so that they can eventually do it on their own with independence.
You and your students can use them in three ways: the questions themselves might be useful with your students tomorrow. The teacher card might be useful if you want the research behind why competence comes before choice. Or the structure might give you something to borrow the next time you are building a routine or process you want students to eventually implement without you.
